To commemorate the start of the Otjikoto 40 MW Biomass Power Station Project, NamPower hosted a groundbreaking ceremony. The first biomass-based power producing facility in Namibia is located outside of Tsumeb, close to the Otjikoto Substation. This innovative project will address bush encroachment to generate affordable base load electricity. Through job creation, skill development, and new business oppotunities it is expected to boost Namibia’s economic. N-BiG key role is to strengthen capacity building by equipping fuel supplier and farmers with new skills, resources, and knowledge, ensuring sustainable development while supporting Namibia’s transition to renewable energy.
The power plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations in the first quarter of 2027.
