French Delegation Joins NamPower Consortium for Otjikoto Biomass Power Project Mission in Namibia

As part of the implementation of the NamPower Otjikoto Biomass Power Station (OBPS) ,a delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) is visiting Namibia from 7 to 11 April 2025 as part of the mission on the mission aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the implementation strategies, and on-the-ground realities related to the planned activities of the Otjikoto Biomass Power Station.

The visit includes a series of strategic engagements and field activities designed to support donor learning and familiarization with the project.

The programme features:
• High-level stakeholder engagements and policy maker meetings with Namibian government ministries including the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) , Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform (MAWLR),Ministry of Gender Equality ,Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare (MGEPESW) as well as the Marginalized community under the president’s office .
• On-site demonstrations in Otjiwarongo and Otavi, showcasing the transformation of encroacher bush into woodchips and other value chains
• Filed Demonstration of harvesting and woodchip production at Organic Energy Solutions site in Okahandja area,
• Woodchip Fuel supply chain overview from Ohorongo Cement,
• Presentation of various bush harvesting and aftercare methodologies at CCF and Otjenga Farm,
• A visit to the biomass power plant construction site in Tsumeb.
