Thrilled to present our comprehensive study on “Mobilizing Climate Finance through Carbon Removal: The Namibian Bush Biomass and Biochar Case.” Conducted by South Pole Carbon Asset Management Ltd. and VO Consulting for the Ministry of environment Namibia /GIZ Bush Control and Biomass Utilization Project (BCBU).In collaboration with stakeholders, the study explores climate and biodiversity finance’s potential for sustainable bush control and related value chains. Biochar Carbon Removal emerges as the most promising opportunity, detailed in the attached business case tool for custom cost-benefit analyses.
Key Recommendations:
1. International carbon credit mechanisms offer opportunities, while biodiversity credit mechanisms are complex. A combined approach holds promise.
2. A facilitator is crucial for developing institutional frameworks in Namibia.
3. Carbon credits unlock biochar project potential but should not be the sole revenue stream.
GIZ Namibia, Charcoal Association of Namibia, and Namibia Biomass Industry Group (N-BiG) will collaborate in the coming weeks.
